Lavrov: Completion of N Stream-2 proj affair of honor for Germany

MOSCOW, Sep 24 (PRIME) -- One should not worry about the outlooks of the Nord Stream-2 gas pipeline project, completion of the project is an affair of honor for Germany now, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said at a news conference on Thursday.

“As to the Nord Stream-2, I think we should calm down about the issue. We can see the U.S. trying to humiliate the E.U., first of all, Germany, on a daily basis. We can see the U.S. requiring through their official representatives that Germany should… shift to much more expensive U.S.-made liquefied natural gas. I think, and it is my personal opinion, I do no put it officially, it is an affair of honor for Germany now,” he said.

On Monday, U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said that the U.S. was building a coalition aimed at preventing the completion of the Nord Stream-2 pipeline that can substantially increase the flow of Russian gas into Europe.

The Nord Stream-2 project envisages construction of two lines of a natural gas pipeline with an annual capacity of up to 55 billion cubic meters, running from the Russian shore to Germany under the Baltic Sea. Russian gas giant Gazprom is implementing the project together with Germany’s E.ON and BASF, Royal Dutch Shell, Austria’s OMV, and France’s Engie.
